Some Time Away

Sometimes bloggers get so worried about numbers and focused on how to keep you, our readers, on coming back again that we forget that it’s ok to take some time off.

I am one of those bloggers. And I have to remind myself that it’s ok to not post 5+ days a week. In fact, you probably prefer it, because it’s less for you to keep up with, right?

I took a couple weeks off around Christmas but planned to jump right back into things in January. And I did… sort of.

Until I began homeschooling again…

and took on organizing my house at the same time. I wanted to bring you along for the ride. And I still do, but I realized that if I stop and blog about each step of the way, it’s going to take me forever to get my house to where I want it.

This past week, I’ve stayed off the computer, aside from posting a few simple things and a couple new giveaways. I’ve organized all the bedrooms (aside from my closet – that’s another project though) and the bathroom. It doesn’t sound like a lot on paper, but believe me, it was a LOT of work. And well worth it.

This was the before on the boys’ room…

It’s not perfect now (they make sure of that, haha!) but it’s much better now. More on that later..

I’ve taken some before photos (I forgot on a few) and I still plan on blogging about it, but more after-the-fact. You know sometimes you just get the momentum going and can’t stop or it will go away? That’s where I’m at.

Of course, we’ve had other things happening too. We have some good friends coming to stay with us for a little while as they are transitioning into a new place. They’re like family and it’s nice to have them around, but it means less blogging-time. Well actually, I just need to get in gear and get focused again – haha!

And today, we bought Nate a new (to us) car. This was a pretty big thing for us because up until now, Nate’s driven old junk cars. That’s because we’ve been working on living the Dave Ramsey way. But now, because we’ve been living frugally, we were able to pay cash for a 2007 Toyota Corolla. Yep, cash. It feels pretty awesome.

And I am so happy Nate finally has a nicer car to drive to work everyday. With 56 miles each way for his commute, he needs it too.

This upcoming week, I still have more organizing projects to complete. Mainly, my kitchen (especially the pantry) and our computer area and all that wonderful paperwork.

And eventually I have to tackle our dreaded coat closet. I still do not have a good method of organizing all the kids’ winter stuff and it’s driving me nuts.

The good thing is I’m finding that we don’t have as much stuff, nor am I as unorganized as I had thought. It’s just a matter of well…organizing it better into a system that will actually work. I’m finding that labels are key – not only for myself, but also for my kids (and hubby) so they’re reminded of where things belong.

This…was Luke yesterday afternoon. It’s not often I catch him sound asleep on the couch.

So there’s my week…how was yours?

  1. I SO need to organize all the outgrown clothes sitting in my daughter’s closet and we are going to transition to a toddler “big girl” bed soon. I have been sick though so I haven’t even started… sounds like you’ve been really productive! Maybe seeing your “after” photos will inspire me. lol

  2. This week has been a busy one for me! I have been helping my mom with some things at her house here in town in order for it to be closed on (since she moved to houston) plus been helping out at my sons school two days this week (and next). I also painted my kitchen and dinning room and finished reorganzing and putting up new shelves in the pantry! Plus I just started my new homeschooling blog so today I finally had time to sit down and write about a few things I found at target and the dollar tree today! We are going to start homeschooling after my son finishes up kindergarten at his school!

I love reading your blog! Don’t worry about numbers! I have 0 followers on my new blog and I am ok with that. I am writing everything in my blog to make sure I have some way to remember our journey! I hope one day my homeschooling blog grows and I begin to have some followers to share my ideas and finds with but for now I am just happy to have a place to share it all! I always come back to your blog, love your stuff!

  4. We did some reorganizing before Christmas and then once we put all the Christmas stuff and had more toys for the kids had to do more reorganizing. So, I can truly relate to that. I also hear you on taking a step back at ties and not worrying so much on our numbers. I, too, am guilty of this worry and concern most days. You are right though and know I do need to find a bit more balance at times. Still working on that though.

Organization what’s that mean? LOL! I live in a 1 bdrm apt so I don’t have much space. This spring my daughter will be helping me do lots of spring cleaning but of course she doesn’t know that yet. Lol! My neices really love to help me too.
I’ve always wondered how in the heck bloggers with more than 2 kids can find time to blog. You have 4 kids and one’s a baby. Plus homeschooling. You deserve a medal :) You should take time off because I know what a great mom and person you are so you and your family should come before your blog. That’s my opinion anyway. Having a new car ( I’ve never had one either) is such a good feeling especially when you pay cash. No car payments! YAY!! I got my 1996 toyota tacoma in 1999 and it took me 5 yrs to pay it off. I tell you getting that pink slip from the bank was so awesome. I’m happy to hear you guys are doing good, so congrats on your almost new car.
    Have A Great Weekend :)

  6. Note on winter stuff storage: I just recently started using an over the door shoe rack on the closet where we keep our coats to hold our scarves, gloves and hats.
