With four kids and my husband working long hours, date nights are hard to come by. And even if Nate and I do have time, hiring the babysitter can be more money than the rest of the date combined! We often dedicate a Friday or Saturday night to an at-home date night. But sometimes I wish it could be a little more special, like a nice dinner. Here’s the thing – I can cook, but I don’t usually want to spend hours making a fancy dinner, only to have to clean up the mess before finally sitting down with Nate.
That’s why I wanted to try Campbell’s Skillet Sauces when I heard about it recently.
Campbell’s® Skillet sauces comes in six varieties and each one creates a delicious dinner for two. The best part is they are supposed to only take 15 minutes to make! An extra-special dinner for our at-home date night without the extra work, clean-up, and not breaking the budget? Um, count me in!
First, I had to go shopping. I went to Shaw’s Supermarket to get the ingredients for our meal.

I expected to find Campbell’s Skillet Sauces in the soup aisle, but was surprised they weren’t there. I had to look down three different aisles before I stumbled on them quite by accident on the end cap of the ethnic food aisle.

Shaw’s had put them on clearance. I have no idea why because are new! Their normal price ($2.69) was a little pricier than I’ve seen Campbell’s Skillet Sauces which are typically $2.50. Regardless it’s a good deal.
I was told to look out for a coupon display for Campbell’s Skillet Sauce, but the Shaw’s Supermarket I went to did not have them. So it’s a good thing I found printable coupons at the Campbell’s Facebook page. But you should be able to find Campbell’s Skillet Sauce coupons on display in most stores through the month of January.

There are six delicious varieties - Creamy Chipotle, Fire Roasted Tomato, Toasted Sesame, Marsala, Scampi, and Thai Green Curry.
It was hard to decide which one to buy. But Campbell’s Skillet Sauces Shrimp Scampi is what really caught my eye. I love seafood but don’t cook with it often because it can be pricey and my kids don’t appreciate it. But date night? Now I can do that!

The sauce pouch indicated that I would also need frozen shrimp and vegetable oil for cooking. That’s it – to make this recipe, all we needed was:
- Campbell’s Skillet Sauces Scampi
- frozen shrimp
- vegetable oil
- pasta
Four ingredients? Wow. So simple!
Since I already had vegetable oil at home, I bought the shrimp, some pasta (as recommended) and some frozen vegetables.

Later that night, after we put the kids to bed, Nate and I planned to make our special meal. When I explained to Nate that this was a very easy dinner, he said “Why don’t I make it for you, hon? If a husband can make it, then you KNOW it’s easy!”
I certainly wasn’t going to argue with that logic!
First, Nate peeled the shrimp, which we had let thaw in the fridge for the afternoon.

Then it was time to cook the shrimp in the vegetable oil.

This took only about 5-7 minutes, and during that time, the pasta cooked too.

Next, Nate poured the sauce pouch in and, as directed, stirred until the shrimp was completely cooked.

That was it.

It took only about 15 minutes from start to finish and 3 easy steps to cook our date night dinner with Campbell’s Skillet Sauces.
So it was easy enough, but how did it taste?

We sat down to our dinner for two, complete with a candle. (It is date night after all.)

It was delicious. Like out-of-this world amazing. I cannot believe something so yummy came from a packet!

Overall the price for our dinner was great – I spent $15 for the shrimp (enough for TWO meals), $2.50 for the Campbell’s Skillet Sauce packet, $1 for the pasta, and $2 for the frozen vegetables. Our date night at home cost just over $20. And with other varieties using chicken, steak, etc., it could be even less.

I have always been a Campbell’s fan and cook with their soups and sauces often, but the Campbell’s Skillet Sauces really takes the cake. I am so impressed. It has everything – a great price, quick and easy to make, easy clean-up (only a couple pans), and tastes amazing. We’ve already scheduled our next Campbell’s Skillet Sauces date night at home – next Friday. I can’t wait!

I love shrimp scampi! The sauce is actually very easy to make. You just saute the shrimp in butter and olive oil. Add some yummy white wine and let it reduce while the shrimp cooks. When it is done, toss with parsley, lemon juice, and pepper. I think even your hubby could do that too!

Oh my gosh, you guys are so cute! I’m not a huge fan of shrimp, but that dish does look amazing! I bet it tasted great, too. And a dinner for 2 at a restaurant would’ve been wayyy more than $20! So, this looks really good for a great price!

This sounds so easy to make. I like that you can add your own favorite protein and vegetable or pasta. I’d like to try the Creamy Chipotle and I’d add chicken and noodles to it.
I haven’t tried these yet, but that scampi looks amazing! I think I am sold! =)

We would also pick the Shrimp Scampi one. I did notice there were not a ton of pans to wash, or prep time. Tonight I made dinner and just like you said, the time for clean up took almost as much time as it did to cook…and then exhausted. We really will look for these!
These look great! Now that we are basically empty-nesters, these would be perfect for the two of us! I’ll give them a try & I like that there are so many to choose from.
