Luke, Mommy can hardly believe you are two years old today. Time is a strange thing because on one hand, you are doing so much these days that it’s hard to believe you are just two. But on the other hand, how are you two years old already!?! Didn’t we just celebrate your first birthday?

It’s true what they say about children with older siblings reaching milestones and advancing more quickly.

You’re quite the little monkey. You love doing jumps and flips off the couch and if you weren’t Mommy’s fourth child, she’d probably have had multiple heart attacks by now. But as it is, your siblings have toughened her up considerably, so she’s quite used to it by now.

Still there are things that make Mommy step back and shake her head – like when you learned to quickly scale to the top of Nathan’s bunk bed this past weekend. Yep, lickity split, you were up there and sitting pleased as punch. Of course Nathan was not very pleased when you ripped down his glow-in-the-dark planet stickers and periodic table of elements chart. Oops. (At least Daddy was quick to remove the bottom ladder rung so you won’t be climbing up there anytime soon until you figure out how to conquer that new hurdle.)

Or when Mommy is taking Joshua out to the school bus for preschool and there you are, standing on the back of the couch in the window. At least your big sister, Emily, helps watch out for you.
You are known as the Tornado in our house because you are whirling from one thing to another. And usually making messes along the way.

You are one tough cookie. You run headlong into things (often quite literally) and you rarely cry. When you do, you’ve really banged yourself up, but it never stops you for longer than a minute and you’re off and running again.

You are always busy doing something. You could be playing with the magnetic calendar (which Mommy has just thrown out, seeing as most of the pieces are now lost) or playing with wooden blocks or Duplo Legos. But cars and trucks are your favorite things. You carry them everywhere.

You don’t prefer giving hugs or kisses, instead you show your affection by head-butting people. Quite hard too. It’s a nightly routine in our household – head-butts with Lukey.

You are talking so much these days too. Of course most people still don’t know what you are saying but Mommy can interpret a lot now. And you are so cute when you see Joshua coming home from school and you jump up and down, clap your hands, and shriek “Josh-a! Josh-a!” You also say “Emily, Nathan, Mommy, Daddy, Abby, Josie, and Shadow!”

And even more, you understand what Mommy and Daddy tell you. It seems like you’ve really taken off with communicating in the last month.
You are also learning to help Mommy. Things like putting your toys away. Of course you don’t always want to, but then (unfortunately for Mommy), that’s not something you’ll grow out of.
You have a mop of adorable curls. Daddy keeps saying Mommy should cut your hair because it’s getting too long. But Mommy doesn’t want to! Can you blame her? A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E!

You will always be my baby, Lukey. No matter how old you are. Or how big you get. And unfortunately for you, yes, you have been nicknamed Lukey (with the y) in our house and will probably not live that one down. Ever.

Happy Birthday, my sweet boy. We love you so much!
We are celebrating your birthday on Saturday with your Aunt Allie, Uncle Cody, and cousin Cyrena! Mommy will be posting pictures from that next week!

Happy Birthday!!
My kitten does the head-butt thing too. Of course, he’s much smaller, so it’s not very hard.
Love the pictures! Happy Birthday Lukey! I love your curls. Neither one of my 2 boys had curls, but my daughter had them until
Lukey, you are very photogenic! Such a cutie <3

Thanks Pam! Your poor daughter’s hair! My oldest son cut half of my daughter’s pig tail off when she was 3. I was SO upset! Thankfully she had enough hair where it wasn’t horribly noticeable but STILL. I am always paranoid about kids with scissors around hair.
I really enjoyed reading you thoughts on your baby turning 2 yrs old. I am kinda going through the same thoughts with my youngest grandson right now because in March he is already turning 2 yrs old and it is so unbelievable. Seems like he was just brought home from the hospital. It’s also is awesome as to how well he is doing since he was 6 weeks premature, he was in the hospital for a Month and put us through some scary times and a lot of sleepless nights and days, but he has just been moved up in his daycare because he has advanced to be able to go up with the potty training group. Thank you for sharing and enjoy your little guy.
You have to love a two year old…they are so much fun and full of wonder.
