Easy Temperature Checking with the Exergen Thermometer {Giveaway}

When your kids are sick, all you want to do is get them well again fast! We are heading into flu season, and my bathroom counter is stocked with tissues, vitamin chewables, children’s cough syrup and Tylenol.

One of the most important things that you need to know right away is when your child has a fever. If you are using a traditional thermometer, you know that it is not an easy reading to get. Especially if they are cranky or {better yet} asleep!043-001I was pleased to review the Exergen Thermometer, just in time for the cold and flu to hit our home.  I wasn’t sure what made the Temporal Scanner different from a traditional thermometer, so I checked out their website.

The most accurate way to measure temperature is in the center of the heart, which isn’t something that we can do at home. So the Exergen thermometer reads the temporal artery in the head, making it extremely actuate measurement. The temporal artery is the only artery located close enough to the skin to take that measurement, and since it is located in the front portion of the forehead it is easily accessible.

To check your child’s temperature, all you do is depress the button {it flashes SCAN}, lightly glide the scanner across the forehead and read the display. That’s it!  The Exergen Temporal Scanner runs on a 9Volt battery, which was included in the package. Since we go through batteries like water, having the battery included was a nice bonus!045-001Sadly we have had a few occasions to try the Temporal Scanner this winter, but my girls really prefer the scanner over the digital thermometer.  The first few times I wanted to make sure we were getting an accurate reading I took their temps with our old thermometer and then used the scanner. Each time the scanner matched with .3 of a degree, and it was MUCH faster!

I have thrown out our old digital thermometers and am confident that the Exergen Temporal Scanner Thermometer is the last thermometer we’ll ever need!

    I would use this on my 3 1/2 year old and 15 month old. They are terrified of the thermometer going under there armpit that I always have a hard time getting a good reading, this would be perfect!

  28. I had this thermometer when my oldest son was born, when he was diagnosed with Leukemia, only oral or axillary was acceptable. I loved it for its accessibility and ease of use. We are expecting a 4th child now in June and I am looking for ANYTHING that makes my life a little more simple. :) So this little treasure will stay with me if I win ;)
