Keeping my children safe is something that I take very seriously, especially car safety. My family was in a horrific car accident when I was younger; since then I strive to make sure that the girls are as safe in the car as I can have them.
Sophie will turn five in January {which I can not believe!} and she has been the same car seat since she was a year old. The five point harness is stretching across her shoulders and her legs are so long that the seat has become uncomfortable for her. I wasn’t ready to move her into a booster seat until this summer when it became apparent that she met the height, weight and age guidelines for moving out of a five point harness. We did a lot of research on the different booster seats available and one of the booster seats that jumped out at us was the First Years Compass B570 Pathway Booster Seat.
Here are the specifications from the First Years Website:
- Received a five-star “Ease of Use” government rating from NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)
- Color-coded adjustable shoulder belt path for better fit
- Color-coded lap belt positioning for a better fit
- Latch attachments for secure installation when not in use
- Deeper headrest for better head containment
- Two removable cupholders for easy cleaning
- Self-adjusting seat back for better installation
- Six-position adjustable “no gap” back
- Taller belt path to accommodate larger children
- Patented easy, one-hand fold
- Built-in carry handle
- Deep side wing protection
- Side-impact tested to international standards
- Narrow bottom rails for better installation in smaller cars
- For use with children 30-100 lbs. (3-10 years old)
- Weighs 9 lbs.
My biggest fear with moving Sophie out of a five point harness and into a booster is that we wouldn’t have the seat belt fashioned correctly. This booster seat gives us the flexibility to adjust the shoulder belt up to 1.5 inches – which means that we can get a snug and secure fit with both the shoulder and lap belts each time. The clips on each side hold the lap belt securely across her lap, and the shoulder clips make sure the should belt lies exactly where it should be – not too high or too low.
The back of the booster is adjustable so it can be moved up or down with your child. Since Sophie is taller than an average 4 year old, it took us a few tries to get the back at the correct height but once we locked it into place the back has stayed securely. The seat has six different positions to ensure a tight fit with any vehicle seat.
The booster seat has latch attachments for a secure fit when your child is not in the booster seat. I like that the clips hold the booster on the seat so it doesn’t fall off when Sophie climbs in. I wish that the clips held the seat a bit tighter like a regular car seat, but they do hold the seat in place.
Sophie’s favorite thing about her new big girl seat? She loves that she has 2 cup holders, since her old seat had only one. My favorite thing about the car seat {other than the amazing safety features} is that the seat folds in half to carry and weighs only 9 pounds. It’s easy to move from vehicle to vehicle!
If you are looking for a booster seat, I have been very impressed with all the safety features on this booster seat – and I highly recommend it!

If I win this , it is going into my backseat for my son when he is big enough for a booster. It’s either that or i MIGHT give it to my babysitter for use in transporting my son so I don’t have to move his graco myride 65 out of my backseat

I like that is has latch attachments. The safety instructions for booster seats I’ve looked at say to always have it secured to the car. I’ve always wondered how many parents actually buckle it to the car when it is empty.

I like the cup holders, but what I like most is how the top of the seat that like cradles you childs head. When my grandson falls asleep in his booster seat it would help keeping him sitting up.
