Summer Is Flying By and Other Musings

Now THIS would be nice right now!

I don’t know about you, but our summer is flying by! Our schedule has been crazy – from days at the beach with friends to family hikes to cookouts, even our yard sale, which we finally accomplished last weekend. I feel like I blink and another week has passed. It’s been wonderful, but truthfully, I’m looking forward to our schedule settling down this fall.

Nathan starts public school for the first time in less than 3 weeks. His first day is August 27th and I can’t decide whether I’m more excited or nervous. I’m excited because I feel confident about this decision. It’s been such a long time in coming and knowing what I do now, it’s wonderful to take that step forward. Of course I’m nervous too because it will be a huge change for our family. Instead of having the flexibility of homeschooling, we’ll be confined to the rigors of a public school schedule. But that’s okay. We’ll learn and figure it out as we go.

I’m looking at surgery mid-September (I should know the confirmed date sometime this week) and that’s a whole ‘nother ballgame. I honestly don’t know what to expect in terms of recovery. I would think it would be somewhat similar to a c-section, and I’ve had four of those, but others have said it’s a more painful and a longer recovery. I still need to talk to my doctor about some details and that should give me a better idea.

I’m a horrible patient though. I can’t sit and relax. My schedule is so busy that I’m constantly on the go-go-go and when I do have to sit, I go crazy. That will be my toughest challenge with this whole thing; allowing myself to rest and recover. At least I can still blog while sitting though! I may be incoherent from pain meds, but you’ll understand, right? Haha

I guess I’m just rambling now. It’s been that kind of week…

How has your summer been?

  1. I always cant wait for the summer to be over.. it is my busiest time. I usually get September to relax.. then by October I am busy with crochet orders for the holidays..

    • That’s true – the holidays are right around the corner! I was just thinking that I have to get sign-up started for my holiday gift guide…it’s crazy how time flies!
Hope you have a wonderful day, Michelle!

  2. Erika – thank you for sharing, I will keep you and Nathan in my prayers. XOXO

  3. Summer in TX has been very very hot!! I am ready for fall. Good luck with your surgery.

  4. My summer has been busy too. A few weeks ago we made a giant move from Hawaii to Florida – I’m still exhausted!

  5. I thought it was going by slow until I realized there was only a couple of weeks left and now we are cramming everything in before school starts lol my middle guy starts school this year too and we are going to miss him so much!

  6. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, I’m sure everything will go well =) Our summer has been uneventful. I live 20 minutes away from the shore and we haven’t even gone to the beach. We have done a few playdates and random outings which were nice.

  7. Our summer’s been great! Weather wise, it is just starting to get hot (above 80’s) and summer is about to come to an end soon!

I hope everything goes well with Nathan going to public school (yikes! my boys are not ready to go to school just yet, I completely understand the whole excited and nervous part of it!)….and I hope it all goes well with the surgery (my mom had it done 10 years ago and it all went great!). I’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

  8. Summer sure did fly by just dropped my daughter of for her first day of school! I hope all goes well with your surgeries and i will keep you in my prayers

  9. I just went through a surgery (not the same kind), and I totally understand the nerves. I know I need to take the time and recover, but who has the time to sit and rest when there are a million things to do?? Just take care of yourself and remember it is better to recover once than to have complications.

  10. I completely agree, I woke up one morning it was summer break then I woke up again and it’s almost over.
This summer has wizzed by like nobodies business.. Remember that most of the time we as moms are more nervous about school then our babies.

If you’ve had 4 c-sections this surgery will be a breeze… (trying to encourage you) like you I can’t sit still.

  11. Hi,
In the beginning of the summer I thought it was going to by so slow but it flew by. We haven’t done much but gymnastics. I know in the beginning of the summer we were at the pool alot.

  12. My summer has been crazy. I need fall to be here soon. Good luck on your surgery!
