I’ve Been Locked out of Pinterest!

This morning, I woke up to a message from a blogger friend, telling me that something was wrong with my Pinterest account. I went to the site and realized I’ve been locked out of Pinterest. This is what I found:

!!!!! What am I supposed to do? I love Pinterest, I pin everyday, sometimes multiple times a day. How can they take that away?

Here’s what I think happened: a few days ago, a few of my blogging friends mentioned that they’d had some strange new boards added to their Pinterest accounts. I checked my Pinterest account and discovered the same thing happened to me. I should have taken a screenshot, but I didn’t think about it. The boards had something to do with ‘work at home’ businesses. Spam stuff, but nothing horrible.  I deleted the boards, then changed my Pinterest password. I meant to follow up, but I forgot.

Until this morning.

I’m contacting Pinterest support and I really hope they fix this quickly!

On Pinterest, oh Pinterest, where art thou???

Has this happened to you? Did you get it resolved?

Edited To Add: As of this evening, my Pinterest account is live again! I received an email with instructions to “secure” my account by changing my password. I’m still not sure what happened, but I’m happy it was resolved quickly!
Thanks Pinterest!

My question is why would someone want to spam a pinterest account? Is there no end to hackers & jerks on the internet? /sigh
I hardly touch my pinterest account so I don’t have any helpful words. :(

  2. have you had any luck? the same thing happened to me today!!! it is driving me crazy, I want to get to my pins!!!!! :(

    • Nothing! I’m going to send them the link to this post and hope that helps get them in gear. I just want to be able to Pin again!

  3. Tracy B. says:

the same exact thing happened to me. I also had some new boards on my account and then two days ago i get the same message when I tried to log in. It’s so frustrating. I want my recipes! I haven’t heard anything back from them either and I completed the survey they requested. =( Did you ever get back on?

  4. veronica says:

Wow! I couldn’t live w/o my pinning!! Ouch, I hope it gets resolved

  5. Well.dont belong to Pinterest.. but it happened on Facebook.. lost everything.. and now it happened to my boyfriend’s email.. he cant get into that.. hope you get your Pinterest acct all fixed..

    • Oh that stinks! Facebook booted me 3 years ago and after 2 weeks let me back in. I felt all pathetic because I was so desperate, and mad all at the same time, lol.

  6. Same issue here…

  7. I haven’t had this happen to me yet, I hope it never does! Hopefully you get this resolved soon.

  8. Candice D. says:

I got the same thing! I am so annoyed. I contacted them also, and have heard nothing. I still have heard nothing.

    • Ugh, that’s ridiculous that it’s happened to so many people! I guess on the good side, it’s not you (or me!) but hopefully they fix this for everyone VERY quickly!

  9. This has happened to a bunch of blogs I know in the past day or so! Its very odd they would delete legit accounts like yours. I hope they reinstate it and soon!!!!

    • They did this evening! Thanks, Stacie! you had great advice about blogging about it. I don’t know if this helped or not, but 3 hours later and I’m up and running. Now hopefully, they put back the others too!

  10. I had the exact same thing happen yesterday. I had the same board pop up and even auto posted to my Facebook wall. I deleted the post, the board and didn’t think much of it.

Then life stopped. My blog pins, recipes and contests I am working on (including the dream nursery I am pinning) is all gone – locked. I contacted support early yesterday but still haven’t heard anything back. As I hear about more bloggers being locked out I think it is a huge problem and it might be a while till we can all get back in. Just hoping I haven’t lost everything!

    Best of luck.

    • Mine came back this evening and everything looks to be the same. The email said they “deleted the pin” that was spam or whatever. It’s so strange.
I hope you gets your back too!

I just got a notice from pinterest that I needed to log into my account and change my password. I had two advertisement type pins on my boards that weren’t mine. Weird.

  12. chelesa sims says:

it hasnt happened to me.Smart move to change your password.someone on facebook was saying that they are now attacking yahoo accounts too.

  13. Cheryl Abdelnour says:

The same thing happened to me this morning. I sent a message to Pinterest and got an automated message back. I completed their survey and sent that in. I then tried to log in again, but could not. I went to a giveaway and clicked on following them on Pinterest(I do follow) and immediately I got into my Pinterest site. I checked and have no strange boards or anything that I noticed. I have been using my Pinterest site ok all day. Hope I helped.

    • Melissa M says:

The same thing happened to me. I contacted them but no response and i even did the survey. I deleted several boards that I did not put there. Ready to get it fixed.

    • I hope you both get it fixed. They reinstated mine this evening. Hopefully yours is coming soon. Because this is ridiculous that this happened to so many people!

  14. No doubt about it this seriously stinks!

  15. The same thing happened to me, I am still locked after 2 days.
I also noticed in my email that I got a pinterest notice that people are following that same board you mentioned and I never added that to my boards. I have not been able to log in to change anything, I am still waiting. Sigh!

    • This is all so strange. I hope they reinstate yours quickly!

    • I am no longer locked out, I received an email from pinterest to change my password and that the suspicious board had been removed. I changed my password logged in and wouldn’t you know it there was 2 of the same boards that I never added, I removed those and changed password again. I hope this works. It is a shame there are so many people out there that has nothing better to do than stuff like this.

      • Glad they fixed yours too! I just noticed an extra spam board on my account again. I deleted it. Seriously, this is ridiculous.

  16. I think it’s great that Pinterest is trying to do something about the spam, but wish they would be more careful about how they go about it. They shouldn’t allow someone to randomly add people to begin with. Just a couple of days ago, they had blocked my blog as a spam site which couldn’t be further from the truth. I contacted them twice with no response, but the issue seems to be resolved.

  17. A couple of weeks ago I also had these strange boards appearing. I deleted them and then changed my password. I haven’t been locked out of my account though. I guess I got lucky. I just don’t understand what they are really getting out of hacking and spamming. Do they actually make any money doing this?

  18. Jacqueline says:

I noticed this happened to alot of bloggers today! I found out the other day that a website got infected with malware I wonder if it somehow infected you all too.

    • I don’t my site has any malware. My husband has some pretty detection software and it should have picked it up. I think it’s something just related to Pinterest. But it’s so strange.

  19. Jennifer Rogers says:

This very exact same thing happened to me today and I found the same thing a couple of days ago on my Pinterest account. I contacted support but have not received any action yet!

    • They seem to be taking care of it, slowly maybe, but people are getting emails that their boards are secured again. Hopefully you’ll get that soon!

  20. This hasn’t happened to me so I’m afraid I can’t offer any solutions, I know I would be totally bummed, too.

  21. I haven’t had this happen, but I do hope you get your account back quickly. I love Pinterest too!
