Can you believe the fourth of July is less than a week away? This summer is flying by! A party isn’t quite the same without cupcakes so I went searching for an easy cupcakes recipe to try. I usually make our favorite Chocolate Eclair Cake for cookouts, but I wanted something patriotic and fun too for July 4th. Since we’ve been busy lately, I wanted a recipe that was simple, yet still festive. Then I found this delightful Patriotic Cupcakes Recipe from TasteofHome and knew it was exactly what I needed.
This cupcake recipe is a breeze to make – you take a regular white cake mix and color it red and blue, leaving part of it white. Bake, then frost with white frosting, and add red, white, and blue sprinkles. So easy and you have a treat that is sure to delight kids and adults alike!
(scroll down for the complete, printable recipe)
What You’ll Need:
- 1 package (18 1/4 oz) white cake mix
- ingredients for the cake mix as listed on the box (usually eggs, water, vegetable oil)
- red and blue food coloring
- 1 can (16 oz) vanilla frosting or make your own
- red, white, and blue sprinkles
Preheat the oven to 350º. Mix the cake batter as directed on the back of the box.
Divide the batter into thirds and place in separate bowls. It will be approximately 1 and 1/3 cups in each bowl. If you’re a little off, it’s ok. It’s hard to be exact!
Add red food coloring to one bowl, blue to another, and leave the third white.
Mix them up. I always use my favorite AmeriColor food color because it makes such vivid colors with such a tiny bit.
Fill paper-lined muffin cups with about 2 tablespoons of red batter.
Now put 2 Tablespoons of white (plain) batter over the red and lastly layer with the blue batter. Like this?
Now bake for approximately 20 minutes. Or follow the directions on the back of the cake mix box. Remove from the oven when the cupcakes test done.
Let them cool completely.
Now either mix up your frosting. I use my favorite buttercream frosting recipe. Mainly because I forgot to grab a container of white frosting at the store. Oops. But that’s ok, homemade buttercream is sooo yummy.
Frost the cupcakes.
Decorate with the red, white, and blue sprinkles.
Was than an easy cupcakes recipe or what? Now you have beautiful Patriotic cupcakes!
