Melissa & Doug is one of my all-time favorite brands for kids and it’s no surprise that they’re a feature at Gummy Lump toys. They’re great quality, encourage kids to use their imagination, and offer hours of play. Have you heard of the Melissa & Doug Sunny Patch toys? These water and sand toys for kids are a fun spin on traditional toys, such a shovel and pail, and so much more.
I was sent three of the Melissa & Doug Sunny Patch toys to review, including the Maritimes Mates Sunken Treasure Chest, Spark Shark Toss & Catch Toy, and Maritime Mates Sink & Seek Rings.
The MariTimes Sunken Treasure Chest opens to reveal four coins and two jewels as “treasures.” This offers a variety of games in and outside of the water as children collect and put the coins through the slot on the top of the treasure chest. The chest can be submersed in the water for more imaginative play or simply used for little ones as fun on the sand.
Spark Shark Toss & Catch Toy has two nets and two foam balls. The balls are pretty sturdy for foam and, to my surprise, have held impressively well to my 18 month old’s “teething” (not recommended, but it’s worth noting.) This game is pretty simple – toss the ball and catch it in the net. Of course it can be played with in the water, on the beach, or even around the house.
Maritime Mates Sink & Seek Rings are a package of four colorful rings where kids can dive into the water to retrieve. Of course for younger children, they are great for just tossing around the beach or at the edge of the water.
The weather’s been cold and rainy since we’ve had these toys so we haven’t had a chance to try our Melissa & Doug toys out at the beach yet. But that hasn’t stopped my kids from enjoying them around the house, in the bathtub, and even in the sandbox.
My kids like all three toys, but their favorite is the Maritimes Mates Sunken Treasure Chest. Even Luke likes to put the coins through the slot on top. Of course, that’s if he can get it away from Joshua long enough! I can imagine how much more fun they will have once we bring it to the beach!
Once again, I’ve been impressed with the quality from Melissa & Doug and almost as impressive is the prices, which are quite reasonable for what you get.
