Life: New Reviewers, Homeschooling, Sun, Sick Kids, Birds

Whew! I need a breather! I have much to blog about and no time to do it! Our Summer Fun for Kids Event, which kicked off last week, has taken a lot of my time, even though it’s fantastic and so much fun!

I’ve also been busy looking over the many applications I received for adding new reviewers to my blog team. I’m amazed and excited at the interest! After a lot of careful thought (and yes prayer!) I’ve selected 4 fantastic ladies, who I know will do a great job. I’m excited to introduce them to you later this week. My hope is that, in adding these wonderful people on, we (that’s what it is now!) can continue to offer you great product reviews and giveaways, but it will free me up for what I love doing the most – blogging about my family, The Mom Life, recipes, blogging tips and more. I’ve got some great ideas I’ve been wanting to share, but just haven’t had the time.

On the home front, we’ve finished school a week ago (it pays to start early August!) and celebrated by visiting Dairy Queen. That’s become our annual tradition. DQ is too expensive to visit regularly, but it’s perfect for a once-in-a-rare-while special treat and that was a lot of fun. No pictures there – it was raining and then Joshua decided he had to go #2 while at DQ (of course there were no restrooms.) So we had to hurry up our order and rush the 5 minutes home.

The good news about finishing school is that it frees me up for some more blogging time, but just a little.

The weather is finally beautiful (most of May was gloomy, often-pouring rain) and we’ve been spending time outside playing, relaxing, working on the yard. I should take pictures of the yard to show you all; we plan to do some “landscaping” in our backyard. Our house is over 100 years old and just like the house itself, our yard is rather interesting.

The kids were sick yesterday. Three of the four had a fever/headache/sore throat. Emily’s fever spiked really high but she got over it quickly. Luke is doing better. But Nathan is still sick. When he lays around around and reads all day, I know he’s not feeling well. He’s a reader, but he’s so active, he rarely sits still for long.

I’ve decided our new cockatiel is probably a male (trying to make an educated guess) and we’ve name him Cherry. It’s more of a girl name, but we kind of picked it before we decided it was a boy, so it stuck. And it’s somewhat gender neutral. I’m not quite sure what to do with him though because he never wants us to hold him. I’m being very patient and waiting for him to come to me so he’ll learn to trust me, but he never comes lately. I know it takes time, but he seemed friendlier at the beginning when we first got him, so I’m not sure what the balance is. Any bird experts have any advice?

Last week, I baked and decorated a gender reveal cake for one of my best friends. More on that to come!

  1. Wow – what a busy week! We are done school as well – thinking about starting in August so we can end a bit earlier next year too!

  2. Nicole - Mama to 4 Blessings says:

I am going to miss you my friend. : (Wish we were finished with school, we should be done end of June. Some of our curriculum will be done in a few weeks though.

    • I’m not going anywhere, Nicole! Don’t say good-bye! We just don’t have our weekly emails with Pinterest, but we’ll still keep in touch. I really appreciate our friendship. :) And you are doing awesome with school! That’s the beauty of homeschooling – how flexible it can be!

  3. Aren’t you a busy lady! Congrats on finishing school already. We aren’t so fortunate around here. We didn’t get a head start like you did. The weather is so nice now it would be great to be free of school and have more time outside. I keep telling my daughter that if we work a little harder every day and get a little more done than we normally do we could be done by now and outside playing. There’s always tomorrow to do better.

  4. Whew is your head spinning yet?? I look forward to the great reviews and new things to come.

  5. Jennifer Clay says:

    Aww! I love your pictures!

  6. Wow, it sound like you were busy. New adventures are good sometimes:)
That’s awesome that you finished school, we are almost done ourselves.

  7. I had cockatiels when I was a kid and absolutely loved them! Yours is probably acclimating to its new surroundings, but put your hand in his cage a few times a day and let him get used to you and you should also be talking to him, a lot, like he is another person who always wants to have a conversation.

Congratulations on finishing school, it definitely pays to start early!

  8. Hi Ericka!

Excited to see who your reviewers will be! It’s funny but I was just thinking this morning about my responsibilites as a’s time consuming and I’m going to pray if that’s the direction the Lord wants me to keep going’s fun though :)

Sorry your kids were sick..I had one also that got that nasty fever over the weekend :(

    Blessings to you!

  9. Since we moved to a desert, I have never given my kids a full summer break from school. I give them more time off during the winter when it is cool. I only have one left that I am homeschooling. Home schooling is great! Your kids will grow up normal, and not what peer pressure makes them out to be.

  10. busy busy! I know how that feels :) I work 50+ hours outside the home plus trying to spend time with my family & blogging – whew! but I love it, and I know you do too!

  11. Melissa says:

Fun!! Fun with having new reviewers!! Thar is great that school is done too! Sorry he was sick:( I hate that!

  12. Definitely sounds like you had a very busy week!

  13. Poor Nathan :( hes always so happy in all the pictures, one can really tell he is not feeling well on this one..
